Encounter terms of use

Last updated 15 October 2026. Version 2026-10-14.

These terms are an agreement between you and Samuel Bartle ("we", "us"), who runs Encounter. By creating an account you agree to them, to our community guidelines, and to how we use your information as described in our privacy policy.

1. Who can use Encounter

2. Your account

Keep your sign-in to yourself; you're responsible for what happens on your account. You can delete it at any time from Profile → Delete account.

3. How you behave

Follow the community guidelines. In short: be real, be kind, keep it legal, and don't use Encounter to sell anything, spam people or scam them. Don't try to work out where someone is, interfere with how Encounter works, copy other people's photos, or use bots or scripts.

4. What you post

Your photos and messages stay yours. You give us permission to store them, show them to other people as Encounter is designed to (your photos to people in your orbit, your messages to the person you send them to), and resize and check them, for as long as they're on Encounter. You confirm you have the right to post them.

5. Safety and moderation

We check photos automatically, and a person reads every report. We can remove content, limit features, or suspend or ban an account that breaks these terms or the guidelines, or that we reasonably think puts someone at risk. Where we can, we'll tell you why. If you think we got it wrong, email support@getencounter.app.

We don't run criminal record checks or verify identities. You're responsible for your own safety when you meet someone. Read our safety tips before you do.

6. Encounter itself

Encounter is free. We work hard to keep it running well but can't promise it will always be available or that you'll meet anyone. We may change or stop features, and we'll tell you before any change that affects you significantly.

7. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn't allow it, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud, and nothing affects your statutory rights as a consumer. Otherwise, we're not responsible for how other people behave on or off Encounter, or for losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen.

8. Ending things

You can stop using Encounter and delete your account at any time. We may close your account if you break these terms, as described in section 5.

9. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.

10. The law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
