Encounter community guidelines
Last updated 15 October 2026.
Encounter works because the people in your orbit are real, nearby, and decent to each other. These are the rules. Breaking them can get your account suspended or banned, and some things we report to the police.
Be yourself
- Use your real first name and your real age.
- Your photos must be of you, recent, and show your face clearly in your standout photo.
- One account per person.
- No pretending to be someone else, and no accounts for businesses, groups or bots.
Be kind
- Say hello the way you'd want to be greeted. A "no reply" is an answer.
- No harassment, threats, insults or bullying.
- No hate: nothing that attacks people for their race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age.
- No sending sexual messages to someone who hasn't clearly said they want them.
Keep it appropriate
- No nudity or sexual content in photos. Swimwear is fine; underwear and suggestive poses aren't.
- No violence, weapons or gore.
- No photos of children on their own, and none of children in a sexual context, ever. We report child sexual abuse material to the police.
Keep it honest
- No spam, selling, advertising or promoting other apps, sites or social media accounts.
- No asking for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency or bank details, for any reason.
- No sex work or "sugar" arrangements.
Keep it legal and safe
- Nothing illegal, including drugs.
- Don't try to find out where someone lives or is, and don't share anyone's personal information.
- Don't encourage anyone to harm themselves.
If someone breaks the rules
Report them: long-press them in your orbit, or use the ⋯ menu on their profile or in your chat. They won't be told you reported them. A person reads every report, and you can block someone at the same time. In an emergency, call 999.
